about
Six poets will come up one after the other to share with us pieces of spoken word, street poetry, prophecies of anger and monologues from the depths of their poetic minds. The audience decides who will have the last word. "Poetry Slam" is a spoken word poetry event based on an American format that has become an international phenomenon. The format was invented by the poet Mark Kelly Smith in 1984 and within it 6-8 poets take the stage every night. Each song is scored by the audience and at the end of the evening the winner is crowned, the poet with the highest number of points, who goes up to perform another piece as an encore. The members of the audience who give a score are five random and unbiased people who received a marker and an eraser board ahead of time. In Israel, they are called the 'Anshaltim' - the people with the signs. "Poetry Slam" events are held in about 30 countries around the world on a regular basis. Every year there is an international event to which a representative from each country is sent.
